Friends & Family,
The Patrick Durkan Fencing Foundation will be holding a telethon by appointment to raise funds for our athletes striving to compete in the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, which is just two competitive seasons away.
Both Jackie Dubrovich, women's foil, and Grant Williams, men's sabre, have made enormous strides toward that Olympic goal this season and we hope you'll share in supporting their efforts.
All money raised by the Durkan Fencing Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) organization, is earmarked to fund the athletes international and national travel costs. One hundred percent of their training cost is donated by the Durkan Fencing Academy and its coaches and all our board members volunteer their time. That means that every penny you donate goes directly to the athletes to allow them to compete at the highest international levels.
When our grant recipients call you please feel free to ask them any questions about their season or their plans. You might ask Jackie about her top eight finish in Shanghai last week -- the top finishing American -- or get Grant to tell you about being named Junior Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year for New York University.
Along with supporting their fencing, we are also trying to help our grant recipients learn real "life skills" by putting them on the phones to speak to you. Calling people and asking for money is never easy and we hope we can depend on you to help ease the way. But having the confidence to discuss their dreams and opening asking for your support is an amazing life lesson for them whether they end up in finance, owning their own business or working for a not-for profit. So, don’t be that easy on them! Make them work for your contribution.
One last reminder, we will be hosting a 5K event in Central Park on June 10, starting and finishing at Regis High School. I hope you can donate to our telethon and also attend our fun run to meet our fencers and show your support, running alongside them.
Thank you for your support!
