Lena Park CDC is refocusing and reinforcing the way we work to support our families – those disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. We are leaning into what makes us unique and have launched the:
LENA PARK C.A.R.E.S. FUND
(Coordinating Access & Resources for Emergency Support)
We are seeing the increasing challenges that families are facing every day as a result of this pandemic. Benefits and services are delayed, and parents are overwhelmed by their lack of knowledge and ability to navigate remote systems. More than 75% of our families are low-income and are now at-risk of being significantly and permanently impacted by the global pandemic. Currently, we are a hub of support so families get the wrap-around supports needed to manage. But we can and must do more. We anticipate this acute period of economic shut down and social distancing will continue at least through the summer months.
In response, we’ve launched the Lena Park C.A.R.E.S Fund to raise $200,000 by summer 2020 to expand community engagement staffing and access to tangible resources for families through at least December 31st.
Good News…Lena Park has been approved for a Community Investment Tax Credit Grant. This means that any gift received of $1000 or more qualifies for a 50% state tax credit and possible additional federal tax credits for the donor. This means the more you give, the more your get in return. Please take advantage of this opportunity to help our community by making a gift today
$25,000 - will help us expand staffing to engage in weekly one-2-one outreach with 457 households using a variety of means including leaflet surveys to assess need (which will need to be translated in Spanish and Haitian Creole as some don’t have phones), phone and text blasts, and phone polling.
$10,000 - will Provide access to meals for 100% of residents in need through our partnership with EatWell and local/community restaurants (also a way to support local small businesses);
$7,500 - will provide grocery store gift cards and support access to government food benefits like SNAP/ WIC for eligible families;
$5,000 - will Provide 100% of families with school-age children with resources to support children’s learning including educational materials, access to computer technology/wi-fi, games, and “toolkits” for how to make everyday life educational. We want to help alleviate the burden of stressed parents who are now asked to support the home-schooling needs of their children;
$2,500 - will help with access to COVID-19 testing and other urgent healthcare needs through partnerships with local community health centers and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center; and allow us to Secure and distribute personal hygiene, protective gear (masks, gloves) and sanitation/disinfecting products to 100% of residents in need;
$1,500 - will Help 100% of residents access and complete housing re-certification to ensure they maintain affordable housing through our partnership with Metro Boston Housing; and support 100% of those in need access unemployment benefits (for those with limited access to technology these processes become prohibitive during this shutdown);
$1,000 - will provide cash awards to 2 families who need emergency rent and utility payment assistance.
