Due to COVID-19, our site is currently closed to visitors. We face a critical funding shortfall as 95% of our operating revenue is reliant on tourism. As classroom teachers and children across the country embark on a mostly virtual 2020-2021 school year, we need your support to shift to a virtual strategy that equips educators with engaging content that combines a core history curriculum with thought-provoking discussions about civic engagement, liberty, and personal values.
Established in 1991, The Old North Foundation of Boston is a 501(c)(3) secular nonprofit organization that is responsible for historic site operations and interpretative, educational, and preservation programs at the iconic Old North Historic Site. In addition, we provide curricula and enrichment materials for classroom teachers to bring the history and legacy of Old North to students across the country.
Our EIN number is 04-3120688.
$2,500 can provide a History Mystery experience for 1,000 elementary school students, including our Two If By Sea digital game, in which students assess persons of interest, review case files, “case the joint,” and examine primary & secondary sources to determine who held the lanterns on that fateful night.
$1,000 will allow us to produce a Behind the Scenes Tour video that will be made available to all Boston Public Schools middle and high school classrooms at no cost to the school.
$500 will support the development of a multidisciplinary lesson plan that explores the connection between Old North’s Captain Jackson, the cacao trade, and the commodification of enslaved Africans with an emphasis on history, economics, and ethics.
$250, $100, and gifts of any size will inspire students to consider the roles patriotism, hope, sacrifice, and active citizenship play in their lives and communities as we continue to build a more just and equitable world.
With a gift to the Old North Foundation, you join a community that is preserving, questioning, and engaging with our past to build a better future.
