Donate today to help #MoveTheDate of Earth Overshoot Day

Earth Overshoot Day marks the date when humanity’s demand for ecological resources and services in a given year exceeds what Earth can regenerate in that year. Earth Overshoot Day is hosted and calculated by Global Footprint Network, an international research nonprofit. Your support ensures that we can continue providing decision-makers with a menu of tools to help the human economy operate within Earth’s ecological limits.

Since it was formulated in the 1990s by Mathis Wackernagel and William Rees, the Ecological Footprint has become a common phrase to designate humanity's impact on nature. If its details are of interest to you, including the Ecological Footprint of the world's countries and regions, all the way back to 1961 (the earliest existing U.N. datasets), then you are at the right place.

We, at Global Footprint Network, make all our data available for free because we believe that the more it is used, shared, interpreted, and analyzed, the more chances we have to influence decisions that lead to sustainable outcomes. That means we depend on you, our visitor, to help us keep this effort going. Maintaining the Ecological Footprint accounts for one country costs on average about $200 dollars a month. Not much compared to what is at stake. So please consider supporting our work for as little as $5.Thank you!
