Lighting the Legacy

Through our exhibits, programs, archives and advocacy, Oregon Nikkei Endowment stands up for and elevates missing voices, and serves as a reminder of the fragility of our freedom. We are an educational, cultural and community resource that is relevant to all. Now, we move forward into the next decade with a new name, new look and new home!

We are acquiring the first floor of the Old Town Lofts on the corner of NW 4th and Flanders Street in Old Town, Portland, ensuring our presence in this culturally significant neighborhood.

To ignite this effort, we have launched our capital campaign, Lighting the Legacy, to raise funds for the acquisition and extensive remodeling of the space and new permanent exhibit. This phase remodels and transforms it into the Japanese American Museum of Oregon at Naito Center. It also addresses capital and costs related to ongoing operations and meeting growth targets to serve us into the future.

OUR MISSION

The mission of the Oregon Nikkei Endowment/Japanese American Museum of Oregon is to preserve and honor the history and culture of Japanese Americans in the Pacific Northwest, to educate the public about the Japanese American experience during World War II, and to advocate for the protection of civil rights for all Americans. The two main projects of Oregon Nikkei Endowment are the Japanese American Historical Plaza and the Japanese American Museum of Oregon.
