Where would you turn if your family needed food in a time of crisis? In uncertain times, emergency food relief is more critical than ever. The cost of an average meal has risen to $3.55 in our state – the most expensive in the country and 18% higher than the national average – and this was before the economic shutdown caused by COVID-19. Fresh fruits and vegetables are often the most expensive part of a meal, but also critical for a healthy life. Our partner food pantries are already reporting increased demand, and that demand is projected to rise in the coming months.
This is why Community Harvest Project farms fresh fruits and vegetables for hunger relief every year, but especially for times like these. Adapting to the world created by the current pandemic, we are making adjustments so we can safely continue operations and are committed to ensuring a supply of fresh produce for our partners. A client that receives our produce through Loaves & Fishes food pantry in Devens notes how important this local source of healthy food is:
“I can’t express how truly grateful I am for the fresh produce I receive at Loaves & Fishes. My family and I aren’t able to purchase produce because it’s so expensive. It’s truly helped my health issues.”- Anonymous client, Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry
You can support these hunger relief efforts by adopting a row of vegetables. Your donation to Adopt-a-Row or Adopt-a-Tree will make it possible for us to irrigate, fertilize, and weed these rows of vegetables and fruit trees through the growing season, leading to a bountiful harvest so they can be distributed directly to local families experiencing hunger in the wake of this crisis.
