Clean Water is No Accident

It has taken over four decades to take the river from one of the nation’s most polluted rivers to one of its most improved.

Thanks to those who support James River Association’s work,

the river is now home to some of the largest populations of bald eagles, oysters, and Atlantic sturgeon on the East Coast.

As we enter our fifth decade as protector of the James, we find our challenges are different than those we faced in the past. Since we’ve seen improvements in the health of the river, the problems seem less obvious and appear less urgent to address.

But the truth is, our challenges are even greater.

Together we can be agents of change for the James River - so the James River can improve and enhance our communities.

CHANGE THE JAMES AND THE JAMES WILL CHANGE YOU.

Your Investment Can:

$10 can release 5 freshwater mussels to help clean the river by filtering 70 gallons of water per day.
$15 pays for a water quality bacteria test and posting the results to James River Watch so the public knows if it is safe to swim.
$25 can train one RiverRat volunteer to take action on issues impacting our river.
$60 can pay for a student to participate in a JRA education program to learn about the James River and how to care for it.
$150 can introduce 10 individuals to the river who do not have access
otherwise.
$500 can plant 100 trees to restore a streamside forest.
$1000 can pay the school’s share of a full day education program for 45 students.
$1500 can pay for a class to have an unforgettable overnight education trip at the James River Ecology School.
