Currently, CRECEN has been working with unreachable and underserved communities in the issues of immigration policy, economic and environmental justice, and health access and job placement, through projects/programs: Leadership Development of migrants’ population organized through TPS beneficiaries, asylum seekers and other immigration issues, as well as, support to the LGBTQ populations.
CRECEN is one of the Co-Founder and member of Alianza Americas (www.alianzaamericas.org) our 501©3 fiscal agency for funding accountability and grants management.
CRECEN serves communities in economic distress and social vulnerability, which are Latino immigrant, and refugee communities at large but focus on Central Americans of the Northern Triangle, the afro-descendant population from Cuba and countries in the Mesoamerican Atlantic coast, including indigenous people from Guatemala, and Mexican communities.
These undercounted communities are under the poverty line, and 90% face extreme poverty. Additionally, the people served are working-families with very low-income, low-literacy levels, particularly vulnerable communities such as LGBTQ, Central American and Caribbean beneficiaries of the Temporary Protected Status (TPS), DACA and DED programs.
CRECEN also engages with owners of businesses that work in the transportation industry and disfranchised the elder community in precarious live conditions; which gives CRECEN access to many of their clients, which happened to be an important part of the many unreachable and undercounted populations.

Since its inception, CRECEN is well known at the community, and over the course of 40 years, the organization has developed effective outreach strategies to engage the community, where follow-up education and working assembly monthly community meetings are held at the southwest location. Given CRECEN some funding will become one of the 2020 CENSUS assets for the undercounted people in Houston.
Furthermore, underserved individuals promote CRECEN mouth-to-mouth, up to the point that at least 25 unduplicated individuals are served daily at the two CRECEN’s locations, with essential and low-cost legal services. This means that CRECEN’s policy of open doors to walk-ins, every year, roughly and effortlessly allows the organization to serve over 6000 people. Besides, another of the unique CRECEN outreach strategies to engage unreachable populations, make the organization a stronghold for undercounted and forgotten populations, such as LGBTQ people, because we engage them at their gathering and workplaces on the weekends, which also include entertainment locations where 30% of our clients came from.
