Thank you for visiting my page! I am excited to share why USES means so much to me! I joined USES as the President & CEO 5 years ago. I was immediately drawn to USES's rich history of serving the South End/Lower Roxbury Community. Generations of people have been impacted by USES, especially the children who participated in the numerous programs USES had offered.
As I took on the role, I was impressed with the programs we offered and the people who were behind these programs. USES has the most talented, loving, nurturing, kind, dedicated, and committed staff. We have staff members who have served multiple decades with USES. These incredible people are what drives our mission of disrupting the cycle of poverty for children and their families.
The Amazing USES team on Zoom! Produce for families
In early March of 2020, we closed our doors to onsite programs and services, and quickly adapted to our new normal of remote work. While we could no longer care for children in our early education and after school programs, the teachers moved to a virtual learning platform - providing opportunities for children and their parents to stay connected to teachers, conduct activities that are critical for social emotional learning and development, and provide resources to parents to help them as they now become their child's teacher. We trained over a dozen of our staff to become coaches, helping families navigate the impact of COVID-19, providing food through a weekly delivery program and awarding mini grants for parents who need support in paying bills such as rent and utilities.
