The Center began providing free HIV testing nearly two decades ago and today is one of the largest testing agencies in Central Florida. In addition, free Hepatitis C testing began in 2015 and the Center had collaborated with the Orlando Public Health Department and was providing STD testing one day a week. Due to the overwhelming response and amount of positive results The Center was catching, the service just recently was expanded to five days per week. A dedicated and well-trained volunteer team of testers, under the supervision of the Center’s Director of Clinical Services and HIV Program Coordinator, take in a pride service that provides testing, education, and awareness which equates to prevention.
Over 20 support groups call The Center home for meetings, seminars, and workshops. Groups include Alcoholics Anonymous, Transgender organizations, Rainbow NA, MBA Red, among many others. The O.W.L. (Older, Wiser, Learning program) is the flagship senior social group that meets every Thursday with subgroups gathering throughout the week. Programs such as the monthly LGBTQ Legal Clinic provide free legal advice on any issues one might be facing.
The Center has served the Orlando LGBT community for 40 years. It is one of the original centers in the United States that has paved the way for the rights of the LGBT people and that mission continues to this very day. The Center is open 7 days a week, 12 hours a day (except Sunday when we are open for 8 hours), and is one of the largest HIV Testing Centers in the state doing upwards of 600 tests.
The Center is getting ready to open a much needed second Center in Kissimmee, to better serve the LatinX community. We have been given a challenge grant through the Contigo Fund, and must raise another $75,000, which will give us one year of operating funds for the Kissimmee office.
Please partner with us and help bring HIV and Hepatitis C testing, Counseling, and community support groups to the Kissimmee area. A need that is tremendous!
Understanding the numbers of issues facing the LGBTQ community, The Center has strong ties to other organizations such as QLatinX, Zebra Coalition, FBI, The Orlando Police Department, MBA, Hope and Help, Miracle of Love, Department of Justice, Homeland Security, OUAC, United Way, Mayor Buddy Dyer, Orange County Sherriff’s office, and City Commissioner Patty Sheehan for collaborations that make for the betterment of our community. The Center has, and will continue, to work with all LGBTQ and allies’ organizations for the betterment of the community. Collaboration has always been our best resource to provide a better quality of life for our communities.
The Center is an organization that has a long history of serving the LGBTQ community and continues to grow in diverse and multi-cultural areas within its current location and future expanded neighborhoods and communities.
