Join the Cara-thon!
Our week-long celebration of the steps Cara students take on the journey to self-sufficiency! Leading up to #GivingTuesday on November 29th, we will be highlighting how students get from day one to Great Wall!
JUST IN! An ADDITIONAL match of $5,000 has just been offered by members of the Cara Board of Directors! Help us meet this additional match!
Double your impact! Every dollar donated, up to $25,000, will be matched!Thank you to Jim and Kay Mabie, Kevin Krak of Gallant Building Solutions, Elisa K. Spain, Vistage, Master Chair, and Eric and Tina Weinheimer for bringing the Challenge Grant back for 2016 and making it bigger than ever! We hope to take full advantage of this match and raise a total of $50,000!
November 29th also happens to be our CEO Maria Kim’s birthday. She has made a vow that if we raise $20,000, she would take an entire frosting-filled birthday cake in the face to help keep the momentum going! Let’s give her a birthday “treat” she’ll never forget!
We did! We reached $20,000! See what happened earlier today!
All gifts will go to the mission of Cara. Cara prepares and inspires motivated individuals to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty, transform their lives, strengthen our communities, and forge paths to real and lasting success.
What does Cara do?
In business for 25 years, we help men and women affected by poverty (and often the interrelated challenges of recovery, domestic violence, episodic homelessness and incarceration) to get and keep good jobs, and more importantly rebuild hope, self-esteem and opportunity for themselves and their families in the process. We produce hundreds of jobs each year, at retention rates over 20 points higher than national norms, and with over 80% of employed participants moving onto permanent housing in which their families can thrive.
Our results don’t just end with employment. We also maintain market-competitive businesses that create gateway jobs for those they serve, and we produce a profound social return on investment, where for every dollar invested in this work, $5.97 is re-invested in society over a five year time horizon. The work is important not only because of its clear goal of bringing individuals in need back to the dignity and the productivity of employment, but because of its clear mission to transform people’s lives. Families become stronger, relationships are healed, and communities become more vibrant because nothing gives you a positive outlook on life like a job.
