TADA! Youth Theater

Since 1984, TADA! Youth Theater has provided young people with the opportunity to explore and perform musical theater together in an educational, supportive, and professional environment. TADA!’s mission is two-fold: to present high-quality musical theater productions performed by talented kids for family audiences; and to provide a safe, creative, nurturing place where kids of all backgrounds can harness their inherent energy, build their self-esteem and realize their true potential through the unique collaborative art form that is musical theater.
For three decades, TADA! has provided young people from all racial, economic and social backgrounds the opportunity to explore and perform musical theater together in an educational, supportive, and professional environment.

TADA! focuses on four key program areas:
-Original musicals professionally produced for family audiences at affordable prices and performed by members of...
-The Resident Youth Ensemble; a completely free year-round pre-professional training, performing and youth development program for 80+ kids ages 8-18;
-Renowned in- and after-school arts education residencies that enhance curriculum and community ideals at schools and community centers;
-On-site theater classes and camps for children ages 3 to 14, taught by seasoned theater teaching artists, for which  financial aid is provided.

No other youth theater organization provides such a thorough and varied approach to arts education in New York City.  Your support will significantly help TADA! in our ongoing effort to subsidize the costs of the Resident Youth Ensemble Program, residencies in NYC public schools, ticket prices for family audiences and financial aid for TADA!’s on-site class and camp participants. Your contribution will ensure that TADA! provides high-quality performing arts and youth development programs to the widest possible audience.
Each year, TADA!’s programs reach thousands of ethnically and economically diverse New York City youth and their families residing in all five boroughs and local suburbs. The demographics of the Resident Youth Ensemble reflect the diversity of participants in all of TADA!’s programs and audiences. The RYE composition is 58% female and 42% male; 26% Caucasian, 29% African-American, 15% Latino, 8% Asian, 22% mixed ethnicity; 84% reside in one of the five boroughs of New York City, 9% commute from other areas in New York State, and 6% commute from New Jersey. More than 50% of RYE families declare their household incomes at or below self-sufficiency standards in NYC.
Last year TADA! received three National Youth Arts Awards along with seven additional nominations. TADA! and Producing Artistic Director Janine Nina Trevens have received many honors and awards, including American Alliance for Theater Education’s Anne Flagg Multicultural Award, Family Circle Magazine’s 1st Annual Halo Award, plus more than one dozen previous National Youth Theatre Awards. Additionally, in 2008 TADA! was honored with a Coming Up Taller Award, the nation’s highest honor for youth development from the President's Committee on the Arts & Humanities, and in 2009 with a special Drama Desk Award for "providing an invaluable contribution to the future of the theater.” TADA! is the only youth theater to have won this prestigious award. TADA!’s world premiere production of Up To You was nominated for an Independent Theater award; also a first for a youth theater. Through our script rental program, TADA!’s original musicals have been performed by hundreds of children in schools and community theaters across the USA.
