To my favorite people:
I recently joined the advisory board for an awesome nonprofit called Oasis For Girls, which works with under-resources high school girls here in San Francisco.
I was actually part of their initial cohort in 1999! The program empowered me at such a critical time in my life and provided a safe space in SOMA. The impact of Oasis has shaped who I am today.
Oasis has programs throughout the year that help young women cultivate the skills, knowledge, and confidence to discover their dreams and build strong futures. (To see what Oasis is all about, check out this amazing video about one of the Oasis programs to "Redefine Beauty".)
On Thursday, Oct. 13 we hosted an annual event called SHINE to elevate awareness of issues impacting their lives, and to raise funds to help sustain Oasis’ programs. It was a wonderful celebration at Twitter’s headquarters - from one participant’s empowering story to the fabulous silent auction items, delicious bites, and live jazz.
We raised $49,000 at this year's event! Just shy of our goal of $50,000. I’d love for YOU (amazing, accomplished, badass men and women who support empowering our next generation of girls in San Francisco) to join in helping us fill the gap!
I will personally match each dollar donated up to $500 so that we can hit our goal for this year. This is an incredible milestone for us and will go directly to support our critical services to low income young women of color in San Francisco.
If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me and thank you for making Shine 2016 a success!

Oasis For Girls is one of only a few remaining girl-serving organizations in San Francisco. Our programs in life skills, arts, and college and career readiness do more than strengthen girls’ critical thinking skills and positive behavioral choices – they are key in helping prevent risk behaviors for girls “on the cusp,” including drug and alcohol use, dropping out of school, and entrance into the juvenile justice system. Our staffing, center and programs have a proven track record of success.
Please consider making a gift today. A gift of any amount is greatly appreciated!
