Project Self-Sufficiency of Loveland-Fort Collins

OUR MISSION:

Our Mission is to assist low-income, single parents in their efforts to achieve economic independence and become free from community and government assistance while building and maintaining strong, healthy families.

OUR VISION:

Our Vision is that every low-income, single parent in Larimer County is self-sufficient.

OUR VALUES:

selfpower | Opportunity | Respect | Connectedness | Excellence | Accountability

OUR HISTORY:

Project Self-Sufficiency evolved from the efforts of a countywide task force in 1985 with the goal of coordinating and expanding services for low-income, single parent families. The project began in October 1986, with the enrollment of 65 families. Project Self-Sufficiency of Loveland-Fort Collins was incorporated and approved for 501(c)(3) status in 1992.

Through a growing body of research, Project Self-Sufficiency determined that one of the most promising pathways out of poverty includes access to higher education. The program grew beyond volunteer-driven mentorship and barrier removal to a formalized curriculum of career planning, support with adult education and training goals, and career placement. Our best practice model has been replicated through the Durango Education Center in southwestern Colorado.

Today, our programs are offered to 137 families concurrently. Every day, Project Self-Sufficiency breaks new ground with single-parent families to access their selfpower. Educational and career empowerment through 1:1 coaching, goal reinforcement, and significant support helping single parents cut through the stress and barriers to their success in order to selfpower their completely new life.

Selfpower is the power and confidence that comes from deep within the human spirit – once it’s realized, no one can ever take it away. Our role at Project Self-Sufficiency is to simply help single parents see it, believe it, and achieve it.

Our goal as an organization is to cultivate the grit and determination necessary for a lifetime of achievements for single parents and their children. By providing access to education and career development, we strengthen the selfpower necessary for single parents to push through barriers in order for them to live a completely different kind of life.

Barriers such as affordable housing, mental health services, access to quality childcare, reliable transportation, and other challenging circumstances require creative intervention and intensive, personalized advising.

When families are able to support themselves and activate their selfpower, our community is stronger.
