Friday morning, Ana Maria Archila, co-executive director of Center for Popular Democracy (CPD), and Maria Gallagher changed everything. After Senator Jeff Flake announced he would vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, these two women confronted him on an elevator, sharing their stories of sexual assault and adding their voices to the powerful, painful testimony of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford. They spoke on behalf of survivors and allies everywhere, and on behalf of all of us concerned for the integrity of our democracy in this moment. Their brave action had immediate impact. Within hours, Senator Flake called for an FBI investigation into the allegations against Brett Kavanaugh—delaying the Senate’s confirmation vote.
Center for Popular Democracy has been on the ground with our partners resisting the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh since day one, and have sustained consistent, effective action—from the occupation of Senator’s offices to coordinated bird-dogging and confrontations like Ana Maria’s. But this fight is not over.
We need your support as we continue to escalate our resistance in the fight for the Supreme Court to the midterm elections and beyond. Are you with us?
