The following memoriam is in the memory and legacy of Glenn Vanik, our dearest friend and singer for NoNo Bad Dog. Glenn passed away very suddenly on 8/5/2016 and left a whole in very many hearts, including ours.

But, it wasn’t until his passing, that everyone in the band learned many other things about him, especially, his love for children and teaching. While he never took that route as a profession, he always taught in his own way. Conversely, many others learned that there was something inside him that they didn’t know.

There was an artist in Glenn, something just waiting to get out, like many children.

Glenn turned out to be one of the best singer and songwriters I have ever worked with. We never argued once about what we wrote. If he didn’t like it, I came up with something else. If I didn’t like it, he came up with something else. That’s a rare gift and lesson that he left me with, and would want to pass along to future generations of young musicians.

For four years out of a 20+ year friendship, he never ceased to amaze me. We understood each other’s communication and were always able to works things out to make a song. Sometimes, we just talked about our day. With Glenn, it really was about the music, playing to see what it would sound like, and just having some fun. That’s what made it great at show time, fun…with work infused.

The family asked that in lieu of flowers, that people who loved and knew Glenn to make a donation to a charity of their choice…

With Glenn’s passion for music of many genres, and his love for teaching children, we honor Glenn by selecting Notes for Notes as a charity of choice.

Cook.

ABOUT NOTES FOR NOTES™
Notes For Notes (N4N™) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that designs, equips, and staffs after-school recording studios inside Boys & Girls Clubs and community centers, offering youth the opportunity to explore, create, and record music for FREE. N4N Studios are packed with professional instruments – guitars, basses, drums, keyboards/synths – and equipment – DJ gear, digital music workstations – and full recording facilities. Beyond providing access to equipment and resources, N4N educates youth about careers both on the stage and behind the scenes.
N4N was founded on the core belief that music is the universal language of humankind, with the power to transcend virtually any cultural, racial, or socioeconomic barrier. At the heart of the organization is a dedication to the relationships formed through music. We make a point NOT to censor lyrics as it is the freedom of expression and respect for the creativity of others that drives an open environment in the studio. Music inspires connection and collaboration, and it is through these relationships that we can make the most impact.

N4N currently operates 17 studios across the country with plans to open additional studios in 2017. Please visit notesfornotes.org for more information.
