Richard “Rick” Kretschmar, Jr. of Suffield, CT, was born December 5, 1953, in Portsmouth, Virginia, then a lifetime resident of the Springfield, MA area. He died November 6, 2016.
When he was young, someone came to his house asking if anyone wanted to learn to play a musical instrument. He heard his parents say that no one in the house was interested and ran out shouting that he wanted to play the guitar. This was the beginning of a lifelong love. Rick lived his life to the music in his head. He played the 6-string and 12-string acoustic guitar as well as an electric guitar. He was a member of the “Old School” rock band and also sang, accompanying himself on one of his guitars, for many church groups. In high school he sang with “Sing out Springfield”; as an adult, he sang in the Wilbraham Mixed Chorus and the Wilbraham Men’s Glee Club, as well as several church choirs. Because of this love of guitar and music, Rick would be more than pleased to find that any gifts in his name would go to providing a musical instrument and lessons to a young person who might gain from this learning as he did.

ABOUT NOTES FOR NOTES™
Notes For Notes (N4N™) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that designs, equips, and staffs after-school recording studios inside Boys & Girls Clubs and community centers, offering youth the opportunity to explore, create, and record music for FREE. N4N Studios are packed with professional instruments – guitars, basses, drums, keyboards/synths – and equipment – DJ gear, digital music workstations – and full recording facilities. Beyond providing access to equipment and resources, N4N educates youth about careers both on the stage and behind the scenes.
N4N was founded on the core belief that music is the universal language of humankind, with the power to transcend virtually any cultural, racial, or socioeconomic barrier. At the heart of the organization is a dedication to the relationships formed through music. We make a point NOT to censor lyrics as it is the freedom of expression and respect for the creativity of others that drives an open environment in the studio. Music inspires connection and collaboration, and it is through these relationships that we can make the most impact.

N4N currently operates 17 studios across the country with plans to open additional studios in 2017. Please visit notesfornotes.org for more information.
