In September, 1982, we started our private school in Seattle for deaf and hard-of-hearing children. We are now in our fourth decade and doing very well. Everything we had envisioned is occurring, including grade level achievement by our students. This has been very gratifying, as it is the main reason for the school's existence. Our school is the only private school for deaf and hard-of-hearing children in the state of Washington that provides a complete academic program. We have classes ranging from preschool through middle school. Whereas deaf students usually graduate from high school functioning at about third-grade evel in reading, the ability to use the English language (including skill in writing complete English sentences), and other academic areas, out students are achieving near or on grade level due to our teaching techniques.
