As Christopher’s 4th
birthday approaches in just a few short days, it's hard to believe that in his young life he has worked so hard to achieve what he has accomplished so far. Christopher started Early Intervention Services at just 13 months, and then at 15 months was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Hypotonia, Hypermobility, Chronic Developmental Delay, Abnormal Gait and Expressive & Receptive Language disorder. Christopher has been selected by Merlin’s KIDS to receive a service dog to help him navigate through his everyday struggles and challenges including:
- Increase Safety Awareness
- Prevent Elopements
- Sensory Input
- Decrease Anxiety
- Deescalate Self Harming Behaviors and Tantrums
- Help improve Socialization and Companionship
- Aide in Improving Balance and Stability
- Help with communication due to Christopher being non verbal
As an added bonus, his selected dog will be raised and trained locally, allowing the pair to begin forming their special bond before the dog becomes his service companion.
The cost of a service dog is between $25,000- $30,000. Although Merlin’s KIDS subsidizes this cost, we hope to raise $17,000
for Christopher's individually trained Service Dog.
We understand that these are trying times, but any and all donations will be greatly appreciated and extremely helpful! Christopher and his family are grateful for this opportunity and thank you in advance. If you wish, you can join Christopher's fundraising team and raise funds on his behalf - just click "Become a Fundraiser" to get started.
