Did you know that LGBTQ Issues are underfunded in philanthropy?
Since 1982, Funders for LGBTQ Issues has been advocating to increase philanthropic support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer communities. In that time, we’ve witnessed a marked increase in the scale and impact of philanthropy for LGBTQ issues. In 2017, the last year we have tracking info for, United States-based foundations and corporations awarded 6,297 grants for LGBTQ issues totaling $185.8 million.
Still, in our current moment there is a great deal of work to be done. In just the last two years, we’ve seen targeted attacks on the health and safety of trans communities, the enforcement of asylum policies that undermine LGBTQ immigrants, their families and livelihoods, and a concerted effort to broaden discrimination against LGBTQ people.
The truth remains that for every $100 awarded by foundations only 28 cents directly supports LGBTQ issues. Help us protect our most vulnerable community members and propel philanthropic change for LGBTQ communities!
