A letter from Michelle Bussiere:

After moving to the Lehigh Valley in 2015, a friend told me about a man who lived locally in Bethlehem named Shane Burcaw who was working hard to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy community. The more I learned about Shane, his life, and the fantastic things Laughing At My Nightmare was doing, a new idea began to form in my head and a renewed fire began to burn in my heart...

My name is Michelle Bussiere and I have three kids; David (11), Madison (10) and Abrielle (7). I am a self-rescue swim instructor, I'm a lover of the outdoors & adventure, I'm a bookworm, and I love to write. In 2013, after the birth of my third child and never having run more than a 5K, I decided to run a marathon for a different reason than you would think...

My 11-year-old son, David, was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy when he was 19 months old. At the time of David's diagnosis, my family and I had JUST uprooted our lives and moved across the country from Florida to Texas. Less than a year later, David was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder as well.

Over the years, I have found my passion in spreading awareness about Muscular Dystrophy, raising funds to fight neuromuscular disease, and providing the best care and quality of life for people living with MD. I have fundraised for impactful organizations benefiting the muscular dystrophy community, and I began running marathons, half-marathons, and relay races, as another way to promote awareness and raise funds.

After running a handful of half-marathons, a marathon relay, and a full marathon to fundraise and advocate for people living with MD, I figured I’d have to do something bigger and better than ever before in order to accomplish something amazing... Running in the mountains and adding 20+ obstacles is way more fun and meaningful, right?!? With that in mind, I have signed up to compete in the TriState Spartan Sprint race on October 2, 2021!

My goal is to raise $15,000 for Laughing At My Nightmare! This is a fundraising milestone I have not yet achieved and I know that with your help, we can get there!

A Spartan Sprint combines trail running with 20 obstacles, held on off-road terrain featuring water and mud. “To achieve a goal you’ve never achieved before, you must do things you’ve never done before.” With that in mind, I’m putting my feet to the path, my hands to the weights and ropes, and my muscles to the ultimate test to do something I have never before done for the MD community. All funds raised will be benefit LAMN's No More Nightmares Program which supplies equipment to people living with muscular dystrophy!

I hope that you will help me reach my goal by making a donation to a cause so dear to all of our hearts. I can promise you that I will train as hard as humanly possible for this race, I will share my training experience every step of the way, and what I absolutely love about fundraising for Laughing at My Nightmare is that you can see the faces of the families who have been impacted by the work of this organization!
