Empowering Girls Through Sports - Marc's Marathon Fundraiser

Fundraising global stats: 32% left

Amount raised: $6,776

Amount left: $3,224

I am running my first (and last) marathon in less than 30 days in Stockholm, Sweden and using it as an excuse to fundraise for an important cause.  While I have spent my energies fundraising for my own nonprofit (Kilifi Kids - https://www.kilifikids.org/) on mobile health interventions in recent campaigns, I thought it appropriate to make a special exception this go-around. I hope to fundraise on behalf of 2 amazing nonprofits focused on girl empowerment through sports

Being a father to a 5-year old girl, I know how vital it is to provide opportunities that allow young women to be independent, confident, and strong. Girls' participation in sports, as well-documented in research (like https://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/02/15/as-girls-become-women-sports-pay-dividends/?em), serves as an important social and economic empowerment tool in this regard. Sports are a vehicle in which girls acquire new professional networks, develop a sense of identity, and access new opportunities to be more engaged in school and community life.

My fundraising target is $10,000, with 100% of the proceeds to be evenly split between two charities that are doing amazing work to empower the next generation of woman in both the U.S. and Kenya:

         1.  Moving the Goalposts (MTG) - http://mtgk.org/:  Based in coastal Kenya, MTG is a charity devoted to using soccer as a tool for empowering girls between 9 to 25.  They create a safe space for girls and young disadvantaged women to understand their rights and take up leadership roles in their communities.  Kilifi Kids has partnered with MTG in the past and I can speak directly of its critical work in Kenya.

         2.  Girls on the Run (GOTR) - https://www.girlsontherunatlanta.org/:  With chapters across the nation (incl. Atlanta, New York, and Boston), GOTR uses trained coaches to lead small running teams of girls in 3rd-8th grade to develop essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. We are helping the Atlanta chapter in this goal.

All donations are tax deductible!  You will receive a tax receipt on behalf of Kilifi Kids with our EIN#, where all proceeds from your donation will support specific programs at GOTR and MTG that share with Kilifi Kids a mission for empowering women through the promotion of health. Let me know if you have any questions or don't receive your tax receipt.

Please consider donating NOW
My marathon is on June 1 and I need all the motivation I can get to make it through to the end.  Most importantly, your donation will make a difference in the lives of hundreds of girls in the U.S. and Kenya and is needed now more than ever.  Thank you for being a part of this important cause.
