The Junior League of Richmond (JLR) is an organization of women committed to the mission of promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
For the 3rd Annual LBDI, JLR is partnering with three local non-profit organizations in the Richmond area. 100% of all donations will go directly toward helping each of these organizations with specific projects outlined below.
Our Goal: To raise at least $30,000 to fund these 3 grant recipients. Funds raised beyond $30,000 will support training for our members in order to carry out the JLR Mission.
Safe Harbor-Supports those are experiencing or have experienced domestic violence, sexual violence, or human trafficking. Nearly 1 in 4 women have experienced violence by a spouse of boyfriend. Richmond ranks as one of the Top 20 Jurisdictions for Sex Trafficking in the United States. Since 2007, the National Human Trafficking Hotline (NHTH) has received 4,409 calls that reference Virginia. Since 2012, Henrico County has prosecuted 152 people for charges related to sex trafficking. $15,000 from our campaign will go towards Dental Needs, Social Activities, Outings, and Clothing for women seeking shelter at Safe Harbor
Child Savers-Provides trauma-informed mental health and child development services to children and adults. Through Child Savers Nutrition Programs, 3,500 children will receive healthy meals while in early child care through 165 providers. This program reimburses early child care providers for healthy meals and not only saves providers money, but ensures children are getting healthy food while in care. $12,130 will go towards Healthy Hydrations, Family Style Meal Delivery, and access to fresh foods
Greater Richmond Fit4Kids-Dedicated to improving children’s health and reducing the prevalence of childhood obesity in the Richmond region. Over the past four decades, childhood obesity rates have tripled. Today, approximately 27% of American children ages 10-17 are overweight or obese. The numbers are even higher in African American and Latino communities, where nearly 40% of children are overweight and obese.
$2,750 from our 2019 campaign will go towards 10 Scholarships to Game On, Girl! Summer Summit
Junior League of Richmond-Funds raised in excess of $30,000 will allow us to train our members so that they may continue to support the JLR mission in the Richmond community. It is our goal to be an inclusive group of informed thought leaders intentionally serving and empowering women, youth, and families, striving for collective impact through collaboration and advocacy.
If you would like more information on joining the JLR in our work, we welcome all women who value our Mission. We are committed to inclusive environments of diverse individuals, organizations, and communities. Information on membership can be found here.
