I am personally participating in the Little Black Dress Initiative to bring awareness to the number of families living in our communities who struggle every month to make ends meet. JLM has allowed me to spend time with some of these families, provide meals to them and be an example to girls & young women in my community- showing them that if they put their mind to something they can accomplish it.
I grew up with my grandma below the poverty level. We received goverment cheese from the fire station every month and my pants were always too big so I didn't grow out of them too quickly. That said, I grew up with the most loving and supportive role models and I thank God for each one of them for making me the person I am today.
In February I participated in a Helping Hands event with JLM for the Homeless Buddies shelter. We had a Valentine's and birthday party for the kids living at the shelter. To my surprise, I knew one of the moms living there. She was a teacher at my son's daycare. I had spent the past 4 1/2 years interacting with her almost daily and I had no idea she was homeless.
We have to make a difference. We have to be role models. This is a great cause. Please donate.
thanks! xoxo Deb
