Berrien County 2019 End of Year Campaign
From our start in June 2019 to present, we have served roughly 49 children of the 62 that are currently in care here in Berrien. In four months, we were able to accomplish hosting a Staff Appreciation luncheon for DFCS workers, complete renovation of the visitation room, completely create a Relaxation Room, initiate and plan a Fostering Fall Festival specifically for kids in foster care and foster families in Berrien County and meet numerous needs as they arose. We have collected over $650 in fast food gift cards for DFCS to feed children that come into care, and we have received over 50 Journey bags from church partners.
Recently, we were contacted by DFCS about an aunt who had taken in 3 of her sister’s children to avoid their coming into care. The aunt was in need of beds for the kids but was also struggling financially. This was a great opportunity to connect the aunt with a local church who could come alongside her. We posted the need for the beds and within 2 hours someone had purchased bunk beds and mattresses and then another person purchased all the bedding.
The church we connected with the aunt then went out and began ministering to the family.
They brought meals and just sat and invested time into them. They have since helped her financially by paying her rent and helping her get ahead of what is needed. This past Sunday, the aunt had to work but the church arranged for a member to pick up all the kids and take them to church.
