H.E.R.O. for Children, Inc.'s Quick Facts:
  • Since H.E.R.O.s inception in 2003 over 350 children have been served with 18,000 hours of quality of life care through more than 1,000 volunteers
  • H.E.R.O. has the only one-on-one mentoring program for children affected by HIV/AIDS in the state of Georgia
  • H.E.R.O. is the only organization in Georgia to specifically address quality of life care for children infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS.
  • Thirty-three percent (33%) of those enrolled are HIV positive and the other 77% have an infected parent, caregiver or sibling. 
  • Programming includes:
Super HEROs – A holistic mentoring program with a five pillar foundation that includes: 1) mentor training, 2) bi-monthly interaction between mentors and mentees, 3) continuing education for mentors, 4) quarterly activities to promote fun and group socialization between all children and mentors in the program, and 5) a mentor appreciation award luncheon.

Camp High Five – A one week summer camp with recreational activities and educational workshops. Children experience a wide range of activities they may not be able to afford otherwise, including horseback riding, archery, fishing, and boating.

Bright HEROs– An educational enrichment intervention which provides higher education and professional training scholarships, academic and professional development support (i.e. private tutoring, SAT preparation courses, art classes, school supplies, etc.) and volunteer employment stipends to our clientele.

Unforgettable Experiences – A variety of events that provide children with an outlet to experience the normal joys of childhood. These recreational outings include: HERO for a Day, HERO Fall Festival and HERO Olympics.

Holiday of HEROs – An annual outreach to provide children with one gift they need and one gift they want during the holiday season.
