Since 1988, the Foundation for Vancouver Public Schools has been getting kids to school healthy, happy, and ready to learn.
VPS serves approximately 24,000 students in 37 schools and programs. Over 50 percent of students are from families with incomes below federal poverty guidelines (as indicated through qualification for the free or reduced-price meal program). More than one-thousand VPS students experienced homelessness during the prior school year and more than one out of five VPS students were chronically absent from school, showing signs of needing social service supports.
The Foundation for VPS provides support for students in all schools providing approximately $500,000 annualy for food, clothing, emergency and preventative health care, athletic/activity fees, and other urgent basic needs to our Vancouver Public Schools students in need as well as enrichment activities and access to adult mentors.
