For me, obstacle course racing very much mimics life. Obstacles are thrown at us all the time, challenging our will to persevere. I have learned from the countless number of family members and friends dealing with illness and disease that backing down is not an option.
I am a cancer survivor, a Crohn’s Disease warrior, and an advocate for living every day to the fullest. I am blessed beyond belief with supportive people around me, cheering me on through successes and setbacks.
For Those Who Would is my way of paying it forward, helping others who are not as fortunate. Racing is not about winning, it is about never giving up, despite the challenges.
So many people I know and love are dealing with illness and disease. I believe it is important to help those you can, any time you are able. I run in honor of those who want to be there just as much as I do. Each time I feel like stopping, like I should quit...I think of those individuals. There's no way I'm going to let them down, so giving up is not an option.
For Those Who Would is a certified 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity based out of Richmond, KY with a mission to support individuals prevented from participating in athletic and physical recreational activities due to debilitating injuries or chronic diseases. We want to make a positive and meaningful impact on the lives of those individuals and to become the charity of choice for adventure and endurance athletes. For Those Who Would also supports endurance and adventure athletes by providing a mechanism through which they can raise money for their own personal cause that furthers the foundation’s mission.
But what are we really about?
For Those Who Would is about the stories of athletes who want to do “more than just compete”. It is about the stories of those who would love to be able to do what we do, but can’t due to injury or disease. It is about competing in honor of that special disadvantaged individual in your life. For Those Who Would was established so that the passion of obstacle racing and adventure athletes could be channeled into “making MEANINGFUL IMPACT” on the lives of others. This is personal and we want to help make that happen.
Greater than 90% of all tax-deductible donations to For Those Who Would goes directly to support individuals in need of healthcare assistance. Please consider contributing, no matter how small (or large)!
