Reese looks forward to being placed with her new best friend, an ECAD Service Dog. The dog will be specially trained to help Reese navigate her environment and the world around her. The dog will help Reese gain more independence with walking and mobility and will be her forever friend. Please join us by making a donation today.
Meet ECAD Client: Reese Roback
Reese Roback is an 8-year old girl who lives in Melrose, MA with her mom, dad and brother Max. In many ways Reese is like other 8-year old kids doing things like going to school, playing, spending time with her family and using her iPad. Her smile lights up the room and she loves to laugh. However, when she was just two years old, Reese was diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome.
Likely, you have never heard of Angelman Syndrome, it is a very rare genetic disorder only affecting approximately 1 in 15,000 children born. People with Angelman Syndrome like Reese have significant developmental delays, cognitive delays, lack of speech, difficultly walking and seizures. While Reese has made great progress with her many therapies, this will be a lifelong disorder and she will require lifelong care.
An ECAD Service Dog will help Reese navigate the world safely. The dog will help Reese with her mobility and balance and allow her to walk more independently. Most importantly, the dog will be her best friend, providing unconditional love and support and receiving all of Reese’s love in return. We know a bond like this will help Reese gain more confidence as she continually navigates all the challenges the world presents her.
As her parents, when faced with Reese's Angelman Syndrome diagnosis we grieved for everything we thought her life would look like. Today, while we still have to manage that grief, we are also able to evolve our hopes and dreams into a new ones as we think about what her future will look like. We know love, support and companionship are some of the greatest gifts we can give to Reese. Please help us as we forage a new future for Reese with her new best friend by her side, an ECAD Service Dog.
Thank you for the gifts made in Reese's honor to help her and others like her. We greatly appreciate your generous support!
