Willa looks forward to being placed with her ECAD Service Dog, who will be specially trained to help her deal with her PTSD and her day-to-day overwhelm. Willa’s dog will improve her quality of life and bring her peace.
Meet ECAD Client: Willa Bellon
My name is Willa Bellon and I’d like to ask for your help.
I’m a pretty typical 10 year old -- I love animals, creating art, playing video games, and hanging out with friends and family.
I also happen to have PTSD. When I was just five years old, my older brother was admitted to the hospital for serious health issues. It was a scary time and really hard to miss my brother and watch him go in and out of hospitals. Since then, I’ve dealt with difficult memories, nightmares, and various fears.
Then last spring, right as my school closed because of COVID, our family had a house fire. We came home to police cars and fire trucks. Firefighters were spraying the house as smoke came off it. In the months after, I was scared to leave my house.
I get flooded and overwhelmed in crowded places and loud places. Sometimes I just freeze up and can’t find words.
But today, I’m excited! Getting a service dog will mean so much for me. A service dog will help me feel more at ease when I get overwhelmed. My dog will help me deal with situations and places that make me freeze or shut down.
Your support will make it possible for me to live life more happily. By making a gift in my honor, you help me and others like me receive a service dog who can meet our needs. Thank you so much for your generosity. I’m so grateful.
Thank you for your generous gifts to ECAD in honor of Willa Bellon.
