“After the accident, I lost sight of all my dreams and all of my future plans changed.
However, with the help of an ECAD Service Dog, I have high hopes of gaining back my independence.”
Meet ECAD Client Olivia Gilbert
In April 2018, Olivia experienced a life-changing incident that almost cost her, her life. She was struck and run over by an oil truck while in a crosswalk at school. She was rushed to the hospital where she spent over a month recovering from a severe degloving injury on her right leg. After two emergency surgeries and six reconstructive surgeries, Olivia had skin grafts covering her right thigh and was stable enough to go home for recovery.
Since then Olivia has made leaps and bounds in recovery, but still struggles in her daily life. In addition, she continues to have to undergo surgery every month to repair the damage and scarring on her leg. This makes independence very difficult with so much recovery time and additional mobility limitations after surgery.
Olivia will be facing challenges in recovery for many years to come, but she does not want this to affect her quality of life. An ECAD Service Dog will change her life in so many ways and she looks forwards to the privilege of being assisted by one.
