Ken Ponte, a retired local businessman, lives in Torrington, CT. When Ken visited ECAD’s nearby campus and met Service Dog-in-training Theo, Ken knew immediately that a service dog will greatly improve his life, both physically and emotionally.
This is why Ken is seeking funds to obtain a four-legged new best friend.
My name is Kenneth A. Ponte Sr. I was born in Westerly RI and grew up in Torrington CT with my parents and five siblings. I have four children and three grandchildren.
My parents ran a doughnut business called “Bess Eaton Donuts” until my father’s illness and my mother’s death, at which point my siblings and I took over the business. Later we split up and ran our own businesses.
As a child I played baseball, basketball and football. Football was my favorite sport and I played all through high school. At the age of ten I was diagnosed with Osgood Schlatter’s disease and have had numerous knee surgeries throughout my life.
I have many health issues, including diabetes, heart problems, arthritis, osteoporosis, sleep apnea, asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
Regardless of my medical issues, I am very eager to succeed in life. I was an active person growing up, but unfortunately for the last ten years I have had to stay at home most of the time. I want to be able to do more for myself rather than ask others for help. My ECAD service dog will help me become more mobile and independent, less homebound and enable me to have a more normal life. My service dog will help with my disabilities and be a best friend and lifelong family member to me and my immediate family. I am very grateful for this special opportunity.
Thank you for your generous gifts to ECAD in honor of Kenneth Ponte.
