Brian Greenleaf is a USAF Veteran who suffers from PTSD, and also suffers with Multiple Sclerosis. Now, more than ever, Brian and his family realize how important a service dog would be to help him with safty issues, while at the same time help Brian to maintain his independence.

      Brian's Story:

My name is Brian and I grew up in East Hartford, Connecticut. I am married to my wonderful wife Mary Beth. We have two children, Shane, our son, who lives in New York with his wife and their son; and Megan, our daughter, who lives with us in Enfield, Connecticut.

I served with the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic crew chief in Texas, Japan, and South Korea. Unfortunately, I have service-connected Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), as well as Multiple Sclerosis. The PTSD causes flashbacks, nightmares, and anxiety in crowds, among other things. I have reduced stamina, muscle weakness, limited mobility, and balance problems that have caused me to fall from my symptoms of the Multiple Sclerosis. Since my wife is disabled, I do the grocery shopping, laundry, and household chores.

A service dog will help me to maintain and greatly improve my independence, enabling me to continue to care for my family. The dog will help with my balance problems, including navigating stairs and curbs safely. The dog will retrieve things from the floor and lower levels for me, and prevent me from falling, and/or helping me to get up, if necessary.  The dog will ground me when I have flashbacks and wake me from nightmares. I will be able to tolerate crowds with less anxiety because my dog will stand in front of me or behind me acting as a barrier to give me safe space.

Having a service dog will increase my quality of life tremendously. This is why I am excited about fundraising to support ECAD, Educated Canines Assisting with Disabilities; and to help the organization defray the $25,000 expense of placing me with a service dog. Your donations are greatly appreciated!

Thank you for your generous support to help ECAD educate a service dog for Brian.
