“When we visited ECAD’s Canine Education and Wellness Center and met several of the Service Dogs-in-Training,
I knew immediately that a service dog will improve Anaya’s quality of life.” Delina Hesse, Anaya’s mom
Meet ECAD Client Anaya Hesse
Anaya is a beautiful and very spirited little girl who was born on March 11, 2011. She lives in Enfield, Connecticut with her mother, Delina and thirteen year old sister, Tianna, and their pet dog, Maddie. Since kindergarten, Anaya has been in a Special-Education classroom at school; currently she is going into the third grade.
As young as two years old, Anaya began to have behavioral issues that were extremely abnormal for a child her age. She has since been diagnosed with autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), anxiety, and Disrupted Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD), all coupled with sensory issues. She is a high functioning autistic child, but when you mix in the other disorders, life becomes very complicated. Just as other young girls her age, Anaya loves to laugh, ride her bike, play with her baby dolls, and dress up like a princess. She also loves to swim, play soccer, and make cartwheels. However, Anaya struggles to be alone, even in own home. This includes using the bathroom or sleeping in own room. She has trouble making friends because she can't adequately process emotions, which leads to frustration, tantrums, elopement, and can sometimes turn aggressive. Out in public with Anaya is a hit or miss, depending on the weather, amount of people, noise level, and/or her general mood.
With a specially-educated ECAD Service Dog by Anaya’s side, she will feel more secure and the quality of life for her and her family will greatly improve.
