Amelia Denny is a beautiful young woman who looks forward to getting better so she can return to college to pursue a career in the investigative services.  Amelia frequently visits the ECAD campus in Torrington, CT to interact with the dogs and to enjoy their companionship.

       Amelia's Story:

Hello, my name is Amelia Denny. I struggle with a diagnosis of Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), a type of dysautonomia (a condition in which the autonomic nervous system does not work properly), and an overactive vagus nerve.

Unfortunately, the symptoms of my illnesses have left me a victim to fainting and physical weakness, which has resulted in my need for the use of a wheelchair. Other symptoms include increases in heart rate, body spasms, and convulsions. One of the most difficult aspects of my illnesses is that a particular episode comes without warning. There is a strong possibility that the episodes will never fully go away.

In 2014, I was a college student; however, I was unable to continue my studies due to the severity of my illnesses. The road I have traveled since then has been a tough one, but I pride myself in staying positive. And, the dream of obtaining a service dog – nothing else has helped much yet – has helped me to endure and to adapt to the life I have been dealt.

Currently, I am fundraising to support ECAD, Educated Canines Assisting with Disabilities, the nonprofit organization that is educating a service dog for me. The dog will know the responses needed during and after a POTS episode, and will help me care for my symptoms that are always present. Please consider helping me to obtain this much needed opportunity.  I am extremely grateful that you have taken the time to read my story.

Thank you for your generous support to help ECAD educate a service dog for Amelia.
