My name is Xavier Gonzales, a sophomore at Mickey Leland College Preparatory Academy in Houston, Texas. I am currently a member of my school's UIL team, as well as a member of it's robotics and debate team. My main focus is my studies, so my GPA is currently a 4.1. My goal after high school is to study a major relating to technology. Technology knows no borders, so i believe it would be best to learn as much as possible about different cultures and languages.
Through the FLO (Fantastic Learning Opportunity) of CIEE High School Summer Abroad German Language and Culture, I will be able to spend four weeks with a host family and immerse myself in the German language and culture. I will be given the opportunity to learn the German language, while being able to also use it in the same environment the language is native to. I will be able to interact with locals and immerse myself into the culture firsthand. This program will give me the opportunity to expose myself to a culture I am not familiar with and help make me more well-rounded. I believe this will help me with my goal of learning about ways of life different than mine. I believe that understanding people different than you will make you realize that we aren't as different as we make ourselves believe, but rather we share many qualities that make us all human.
I would appreciate if you sponsor my participation in the CIEE High School Summer Abroad German Language and Culture program. Although I have applied for financial aid, I need to contribute $1,500 to travel expenses. A donation as small as $10 can go a long way in helping me achieve this once in a lifetime opportunity.
