DC SCORES presents the 7th annual Couch to Camp Campaign
-- a fundraising drive
presented by Cresa Washington DC
with the goal of raising $7,000 to support FREE summer camps for low-income youth in the District.
For many kids in the District of Columbia, traditional summer camp is not an option because families lack the resources. They, instead, are stuck on the couch during the hot summer months, putting their brains and bodies through a dangerous hibernation period that can lead to A) Unhealthy eating and activity levels; and B) Setbacks in academic progress.
It is a sad but proven truth that more than half of the achievement gap between lower- and higher-income youth can be explained by unequal access to summer learning opportunities. Additionally, most children -- particularly children at high risk of obesity -- gain weight more rapidly when they are out of school during summer break.
DC SCORES will not let this happen. That's why we offer four FREE summer camps
— three soccer camps and one, five-week soccer & arts camp — that span the majority of the summer for not just DC SCORES students who participate in our program during the spring and fall, but for ANY child in the District in need of a positive, structured environment.
Because our traditional funding sources don't cover the summer, we rely on YOUR help to fund this critical opportunity for over 200 DC youth. Can you help us raise $7,000?
All donations will make a difference in ensuring that no youth are left on their couches dangerously inactive this summer.
Thank you for being a part of our team!
