Hi, I am Parisa and I am a member of the 2018 Teen Leadership Corps for Cradles to Crayons Philadelphia. Cradles to Crayons is a non-profit organization providing children from birth to age 12 with everyday essentials that they need to thrive, succeed, and be happy J . By donating time, items, or money, you can make a difference in a child’s life. With only $33, you can provide a child in need with a “kid-pack”, filled with a clean pair of shoes, a week’s worth of outfits, five books, toys, and, depending on availability, underwear, socks, pajamas, and other extras. I am fundraising for Cradles to Crayons to play my part in ensuring that every child in my immediate community and beyond lives a healthy, happy life complete with all the items we take for granted.
It came to my surprise that Philadelphia is the US city with the SECOND HIGHEST rate of deep poverty. Here are some other facts about our City of Brotherly Love
-1 in 4 residents live in poverty
-over 300,000 children are in need
-in 2013, Philadelphia had the highest rate of poverty in big US cities
This year, I hope to host many clothing drives, fundraisers, bake sales, and to get as many donations as possible in order to help the kids :)
Currently, I am planning a "Breakfast Bake Sale" at my school and am planning to put jars at some of my local stores to hopefully accumulate some change.
I am a junior in Newtown Square, PA and my favorite activites include tennis, karate, running, trying new restaurants, traveling, and talking to people!
