Our goal is to "run" (which might mean biking for Justen, too... and either indoor or outdoor for me) a 5k every week during the UN-Run.  That will be a total of 9 "races" and with both of us running, we will run 90k (56 miles!) for Cradles to Crayons by the end on June 30th.

Every week, we will post our results here and let you know what we are up to!

Thank you for donating to support my UN-Run fundraiser!

HOT DOG!! (May 4)

RUN #1 is under our (very sweaty!!!) belts!! We EACH did 3.5 miles today in the searing heat!!! My phone died completely half way through the run, adding insult to injury!! So no photos or data this week.... for reference, we "think" we did this 3.5 miles in about 47 minutes, mostly due to the HEAT!!  UGH!! Why didn't we get spring this year??

Week one stats: 3.5 miles (each)
Total miles: 7
Time: 47 min

BASEBALL, BASEBALL, BASEBALL!! (May 10)

RUN #2 was squished in around two different baseball leagues and tournament weekends. It is FREEZZZING outside once again, and we are wondering our wish for spring was too bold, did we will winter back? Justen was brazen and ran around our neighborhood for about a half an hour, but I was less so… and did 4 miles on the treadmill. I think we did about 6 miles between us!

Week two stats: 6 miles
Total miles: 13

OUCH.

Week three was a tough one. The weather is cold and drizzly, and I have had a migraine for days. So Justen stepped up to the plate this week and (despite the almost constant baseball he is playing) and covered BOTH of us!! He did 3 miles of running and three miles of biking this weekend… Thanks, man. Good on you. Help those babies!!

Week three stats: 6 miles
Total miles: 19

JACE!! (May 22)

Week four has been a great week! Justen got a brand NEW bike this week and named it Jace. The weather is a bit more mild, I have conquered my headache and made up for last week’s downtime on the treadmill and in the neighborhood. Justen has done a grand total of TWENTY miles and I ran a total (treadmill and outside combined) of 10 miles. We’re back, folks!

Week four stats: 30 miles
Total miles: 49

The BEACH (May 26)
Thank goodness this fundraiser is flexible, as we had lots of time to exercise on Memorial Day weekend at Long beach Island. We are counting this time as week five and we ran a 5k together around Surf City. I will do my best to upload a photo of this adventure… it was hot and humid, but beachy, so it was all good.

Week five stats: 6 miles
Total miles: 36

The INSTEAD-MILL (June 2)
This weekend John and Justen went to Baltimore with our brother in law, Frank to see the Orioles play the Yankees. It rained here and there the whole weekened… ugh. They got to see the Yankees win on Saturday, but Sunday was a washout. I paid Justen back for the cover a few weeks ago and did a total of 8 miles on my treadmill over the course of both weekend days.

I have been volunteering with Cradles to Crayons since I was 6 years old. I feel good when I am helping other kids and there are so many kids who don't have things they need so I want to help and make a difference. My mom and I joined the UN-Run to help raise money so that Cradles to Crayons can help more kids, especially babies.

Cradles to Crayons provides children from birth though age 12, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive - at home, at school, and at play.  Last year, Cradles to Crayons supported more than 70,000 children in the Greater Philadelphia region.

One-third of the customized KidPack requests we receive from our service partners are intended for babies and toddlers.  These special bundles often include several sets of clothing, caps & booties, bibs & burp cloths, developmental toys, board books, diapers, and hygiene items such as baby wash, lotion, diaper ointment, and more. We also offer diaper bags, crib sheets, and larger gear such as car seats and strollers.  Our Gear Up for Baby initiative provides resources to support this vulnerable population.

The Gear Up for Baby Un-Run is a unique fundraiser "race" in which participants can choose when, where, and how far they wish to go. Each team member sets a personal goal for both distance and dollars to be raised during the race period from May 1 - July 31
