Armour Center Fountain Restoration CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
The years-long planning effort includes a detailed evaluation of the historic materials, fountain equipment, and plumbing systems in addition to input from multiple City departments. The project will establish a central gathering space in the Armour Hills neighborhood along the Trolley Trail that reflects the original public courtyard concept for Armour Center. This generational project will repair, restore, and update the fountain and surrounding grounds to operate safely and efficiently and welcome active use of this beautiful part of the neighborhood.
Originally installed in 1922, the fountain sculpture was replaced by the current bronze and marble work in 1924. Largely unchanged since then (with the exception of electric pumps installed in the 1980’s), the fountain has not received extensive maintenance work in decades. Significant losses to the mature tree canopy and landscaping have diminished the presence of both islands that make up Armour Center.
