As you know, I have spent the last 23 years of my career working for non profits. I have learned so much from each of these experiences. Although I have not been employed by Cafe Momentum, it is the most unique non profit I have experienced in a long, long time. I visited the Dallas County Youth Village where teenaged boys reside, having been assigned by the Courts. While at the Youth Village, many of them have enrolled in a program organized by Chad Houser. Chad is the co founder and former chef at Parigi restaurant. He has started the Cafe Momentum program where he takes the boys from the Youth Villagle and trains them in restaurant skills. We are not talking about flipping burgers. They learn all aspects of running a restaurant. Each month the boys work one night at a restaurant where people purchase tickets to support the program and enjoy a delicious dinner. (I encourage you to go to the Cafe Momentum website and learn more.) I have been to 3 of those dinners and the boys work very hard and then tell you their stories. The "selling point" for me was when I learned that at the end of one year after being released by Youth Village,71% of the boys formerly in the Cafe Momentum program are STILL EMPLOYED. Friends- this program works. Please join me in supporting the non profit Cafe Momentum goal of opening its own restaurant later in this year.
