This summer I plan on spending two months in Honduras at Amigos de Jesús. Amigos is a home and school for orphans. Their mission is to care for these abandoned, abused and impoverished children through imitating the behavior and attitude of Jesus Christ. This organization is near and dear to my heart for many reasons, one of them being that my own Grandfather, an orphan, relied on the supportive generosity of a Catholic church's orphanage. He once told me that it was in one of the orphanages that he first experienced what it felt like to hope. Hope that despite the horrors he had seen during the genocide, he could one day find joy and peace.
Many of the children of Honduras, like my grandfather, have witnessed massacres, starvation, abuse, and so many other things that a child should never have to see. Amigos de Jesús places these orphaned and vulnerable children into a family environment that loves and cares for them, a school to educate them, and a community to socially and spiritually guide them. This gives the children a chance to truly be children; to play, laugh, and experience what it means to be carefree.
I believe that the Lord has called me join with Father Dennis O’Donnell and Amigos de Jesus’ family in this mission. I am beyond excited and proud to become part of their family. I pray that during my time in Honduras I can aid in reminding the children how to smile, hope, and move forward by finding strength in God.
I am sure you know a trip like this requires financial aid and support. I am asking for your support after I spent over $800 on flights. While money is important, it comes in second to my need for your prayer. Please pray that I may find the courage it takes to become a role model for these children. For it is only with prayer that this mission may succeed.
Thank you for your time and may God bless you,
Every Dollar helps! There are over 120 children residing at Amigos de Jesus and you have the potential to change their lives for the better! I put together a list of things that can be accomplished with your donation.
$10 will give new shoes to a child
$25 will give a child school supplies for a full year
$50 will feed all of the children for one meal a day
$100 will keep a child in school for a full year
No matter what you decide to give I am sure it will make the kids very happy!
