I first became involved with Cradles to Crayons in the 2nd grade when I volunteered with my family at the Cradles Warehouse. My job was to gather clothing, school supplies and books for a boy my age who was suddenly living with his mom in a shelter without any of his belongings. I really wanted to make him happy so I carefully chose all the items I knew he would love. I couldn't wait for him to get them. It gave me comfort knowing there was a place like Cradles who cared about and would help kids my age if they needed it.
I remained involved with Cradles throughout lower and middle schools, doing my service projects on Cradles and volunteering at the warehouse. Now, I am a member of Cradles' Teen Leadership Corp, where I am learning leadership skills and leading volunteer shifts. I've also started a Cradles to Crayons Club at my school.
I hope you will consider donating so Cradles can continue to help more and more kids. Cradles to Crayons provides children from birth to age 12, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive - at home, at school and at play. Philadelphia has the highest rate of deep poverty (a family of 4 living on $12k or less) in the United States, so there are alot of local kids who need our help.
